The History

Before It Was
Boulder Creek

Boulder and Lorenzo were rival towns a mile apart: one a rough logging camp, the other a would-be high-society outpost. By the time they merged, neither side had won. But while the rivalry was still hot and the hillsides were raw with fresh-cut stumps, the locals just called it Stumptown.

From 1875 to 1885, the wooden flume ran lumber from Boulder Creek to Felton. It was also the gnarliest ride in the valley for the loggers who dared to surf the chute at ungodly speeds. No leashes. No backing out.

Stumptown Supply exists to keep those stories on people's backs. This is gear for the people who know that Boulder Creek isn't just a pitstop on the way to the beach.

Stumptown Supply started behind the counter at The Redwood Keg. David came for the extra shifts - his daughter had college to pay for - and ended up reconnecting with the people who make this place what it is.

He's a special ed teacher by trade, but after enough conversations across the counter, he started digging into the old stories: the flume, the feuds, the drive-in nobody remembers. The shirts are just a way to keep the lore in circulation.

The California Grizzly has always flown on the state standard, but the truth is, the last of those massive kings vanished from the hills over a century ago. Long before the narrow-gauge railroads and steam donkeys roared to life, these undisputed apex predators owned the deep, shadowed canyons of the San Lorenzo Valley. We took the iconic Bear Flag and stripped it down to the bone and added a modern twist. New apex predator, same rugged independence and grit. The mountain lion and the small town community are becoming a rarity in parts of California, but in Boulder Creek, they have found a way to persevere. We printed this hometown relic on a Comfort Colors 1717 in Black. The heavy, ring-spun cotton mirrors the pitch-black, moonless nights out off Highway 9, while the vintage garment dye makes it feel like it's been folded in a cedar chest since the days of the old mountain logging camps. Material: 100% Ring-Spun Cotton (Heavyweight 6.1 oz) Colorway: Garment-dyed Black (A soft, vintage soot) The Origin: The untamed bones of the Golden State.
