The History

Before It Was
Boulder Creek

Boulder and Lorenzo were rival towns a mile apart: one a rough logging camp, the other a would-be high-society outpost. By the time they merged, neither side had won. But while the rivalry was still hot and the hillsides were raw with fresh-cut stumps, the locals just called it Stumptown.

From 1875 to 1885, the wooden flume ran lumber from Boulder Creek to Felton. It was also the gnarliest ride in the valley for the loggers who dared to surf the chute at ungodly speeds. No leashes. No backing out.

Stumptown Supply exists to keep those stories on people's backs. This is gear for the people who know that Boulder Creek isn't just a pitstop on the way to the beach.

Stumptown Supply started behind the counter at The Redwood Keg. David came for the extra shifts - his daughter had college to pay for - and ended up reconnecting with the people who make this place what it is.

He's a special ed teacher by trade, but after enough conversations across the counter, he started digging into the old stories: the flume, the feuds, the drive-in nobody remembers. The shirts are just a way to keep the lore in circulation.

They called it the Gateway to the Redwoods. By the late 1800s, Boulder Creek was the pulse of the Santa Cruz Mountains, and by some accounts the second-largest lumber shipping point in California. A good share of the lumber that rebuilt San Francisco after 1906 came down out of these canyons, hauled to the railhead by steam donkeys and the men who called these mountains home. This design isn't just a landscape; it’s a tribute to the "Redwood Cathedral" as it stood before the first saws arrived. We printed this hometown classic on a Comfort Colors 1717 in Black because it mirrors the deep, permanent shadows of the old-growth canopy and the charred remains of a century's worth of mountain campfires. Material: 100% Ring-Spun Cotton (Heavyweight 6.1 oz) Colorway: Garment-dyed Black (A soft, vintage soot) The Origin: The gateway to the giants.
